Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs):

After completing this course, learners will be able to:

Understand the structure and functioning of the Indian banking system.

Explain licensing and registration requirements for banks in India.

Evaluate compliance in banking regulations.

Assess the impact of emerging regulations and trends on the banking industry.

Gain comprehensive understanding of the Regulatory Framework of Banking.

Course Contents:

Unit I:

Indian banking system: Overview

Regulatory authorities: RBI, SEBI

Banking Regulation Act, 1949 (key provisions & amendments)

SARFAESI Act, 2002 (security enforcement, debt recovery tribunal)

Unit II:

Licensing & registration requirements for banks

Capital adequacy norms (Basel Accords)

Prudential norms: liquidity, asset classification, provisioning

KYC & AML regulations

Payment & Settlement Systems Act, 2007: Provisions, mechanisms

Unit III:

Bankruptcy Code, 2016: Insolvency & liquidation process

Compliance in deposit mobilization & lending activities

Regulations on bank investments, treasury operations, reporting & disclosure

Grievance redressal & customer protection

Unit IV:

Emerging regulations: Digital banking, fintech, corporate governance, risk management

Priority sector lending & financial inclusion

Mergers, acquisitions, restructuring of banks

Unit V:

Case studies on regulatory issues & compliance

Compliance report for a commercial bank

Analysis of RBI circulars & notifications

Presentation on emerging trends & challenges

Evaluation Methods:

Internal Assessment (30 marks):

Theory (20 marks): Class participation (5), Seminar/Assignments/Quizzes (5), Mid-term exam (10)

Practical (10 marks): Seminar/Demonstration/Viva/Reports (10)

End-Term Exam (70 marks):

Theory: 50 marks (3 hrs)

Practical: 20 marks (3 hrs)
